Former GE Healthcare, Fresenius Litigation & Compliance Leader Pat Murphy Joins King & Spalding in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. May 12, 2025 - King & Spalding announced today that Patrick J. Murphy, who has more than 25 years of experience in leading litigation, compliance, and investigations roles at life sciences and healthcare companies, has joined the firm’s Special Matters and Government Investigations practice group as a partner. He is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Murphy spent nearly 20 years in the GE legal department where he spent 5 years in the Corporate Litigation group and nearly 15 years as GE Healthcare’s Global Chief Litigation Counsel.  In his in-house positions, he managed a broad range of domestic and international compliance matters, complex litigation and internal investigations, as well as crisis management and regulatory risk management efforts. While at GE he implemented enterprise-wide programs to reduce cost and risk as well as resolved some of the company’s most significant litigations and sensitive internal and government investigations. He also has extensive subject matter experience in healthcare fraud and abuse matters, proactive corporate compliance design, and monitorship matters. Murphy rejoins the firm after spending over 6 years at Fresenius Medical Care as Global Chief Litigation counsel where he led the company through a significant FCPA resolution and a successful Independent Monitorship.

“Pat’s extensive in-house and C-suite experience will give him instant credibility with our life sciences and healthcare clients,” said Mark Jensen, co-leader of the firm’s Special Matters and Government Investigations practice group. “Pat is a problem-solver, and he has navigated virtually every type of compliance and litigation issue our global clients regularly face, and we could not be more excited to add his hallmark collaborate style to our client offerings.”

Murphy received his B.A. and his J.D. from Catholic University. Prior to his time in house, he was an associate at King & Spalding from 1997 to 2000.

“As a King & Spalding alumnus and more recently a client, I know I am joining a firm that leads the market in the compliance and investigations space,” said Murphy. “I am looking forward to leveraging my decades of experience working on healthcare fraud, False Claims Act matters, anti-corruption investigations, regulatory counseling, and building compliance programs to collaborate with this top-notch team.”
